Morocco is another paradise for the hiker. There is a range of incredible possibilities: walks in the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, sportier treks in the High Atlas with Toubkal in focus, red valleys and sumptuous dunes, all in the middle of kasbahs and Berber villages. There is something for all tastes and all walking levels.

Of course, at Celtic Trekking, we have wanted to keep the spirit that has been ours for more than a decade: Varied treks, studied and attractive prices, high quality of service with an ethical and intelligent approach to travel. It is of course mainly the natives who will benefit from the treks and not the "travel multinationals" who have enough dollars in their coffers!! Our small structure, with limited costs (brilliant new catalogs and big publicity stunts are not part of our way of working) allows us to offer very attractive prices by favoring a quality of service which has already been our strength for a long time for Nepal and Tibet.

We have in place a solid and friendly team who will help you discover the REAL Morocco with a healthy and real approach to the inhabitants, customs and exceptional landscapes that it offers. We have 6 French-speaking guides and several teams of camel drivers and mule drivers. Aziz, our local manager, has been doing this great job for around fifteen years. Everyone is impatiently waiting for you and will give the best of themselves to help you discover their country in good humor and fraternity.

All with groups of no more than ten people, so as not to show up with our big clogs. Rather than great luxury and the superfluous, we opted for contact with nomads, nights with locals, bivouacs and sheepfolds, in short, day-to-day discovery with comfort despite everything. It’s still a vacation... Besides, the hotel in Marrakech is very pleasant with exceptional Moroccan cuisine!!

Crossing the Jbel Saghro


Duration 8 days(October to May)

Details:

To the south of the high atlas, extends the Anti atlas called the Saghro massif, a volcanic mountain with a desert climate. Very varied grandiose landscapes: gorges, oases of almond trees, oleanders, sandstone towers which rise almost 60 meters in height. A mid-altitude mountain with small peaks and passes that offer panoramic views. It is also a place of pasture where the nomads of the Ait Atta pitch their tents during winter and spring.

DAY 01: Arrival at Marrakech airport, reception and transfer to your hotel.

DAY 02: Departure for the south crossing the plains of Marrakech via the Ait Ourir valley, then crossing the high atlas via the Tizi Tichka pass at an altitude of 2260m with several panoramic viewpoints. Lunch in Ouarzazate then departure for the Draa palm grove which we leave for the village of Handour (1500m altitude) the starting point of our trek. Night at the cottage. 6 hours drive.

DAY 03: Our trek begins with several almond, oleander and palm oases in the middle of green terraced gardens in a desert setting. We go up the Handour valley through gorges which open onto the oasis of Tifdassine then that of Tasgdilte. Picnic in an oasis at the exit of the gorges and climb in the afternoon towards the Bab n'Ali site (two rocky peaks which rise to more than 80m in an exceptional mineral setting). Bivouac in Bab n'Ali. 7 hours of walking.

DAY 04: Our day of walking begins with the discovery of the Afourar gorges. A passage through magnificent gorges with cliffs that rises more than 60 m. forests of oleanders, soul, oleanders, gotte-fière, almond trees..... During our walk we come across villages which are at work in their gardens, shepherds and shepherdesses who come to meet us....Picnic at the exit of the Afourar valley. In the afternoon, we gain a little altitude to reach the lost village of Igli in a mineral setting of the hoggar surrounded by cliffs and sandstone towers. Night at a local's home in Igli (1800m) above sea level. 5 hours of walking.

DAY 05: Long climb towards the high cliff which dominates the village. Then crossing an arid plateau at an altitude of 2300m where the shepherds of Ait Atta set up their nomadic tents. Picnic before tackling a second climb to reach the summit of Kouaouch at 2600 m for those who wish. Descent to the Almou N'ouareg plateau at an altitude of 2300m. Bivouac. 6 hours of walking.

DAY 06: We leave the sheepfolds of Almou n'Ouareg by a long climb without physical difficulty to the Tagdilte pass with a beautiful view of the valley of roses, Dadès valley and the Mgoun massif just opposite. Descent to the Tagdilte valley (1800m altitude). Night in a luxurious cottage. 6 hours of walking.

DAY 07: Return to Marrakech by the Kasbahs route of the Valley of Roses, Skoura palm grove, Ouarzazate where we have lunch and at the end of the afternoon arrival in Marrakech and night at the hotel. 6 hours drive.

DAY 08: Airport transfer by us for the international flight.

Valley of Roses and Kasbahs

This route does not present any physical difficulties. It is also an opportunity to go with your children and discover the richness of cultural traditions, in the heart of Berber country, through beautiful villages, magnificent kasbahs and beautiful landscapes: terraced gardens, oleander forests, gorges, rivers, roses, almond trees...

DAY 01: Flight to Marrakech, reception at the airport, transfer and night at the hotel.

DAY 02: Transfer to the southern slope via the TICHKA pass (2260m), Ouarzazate then KALâA M'GOUNA, via the Milles Kasbahs road. Night in a tent in the DADES valley where we meet our mule team. (6 hours drive).

DAY 03: Through small gorges, we leave the DADES valley with its beautiful colors and its beautiful kasbahs for a desert plateau, before reaching the M'GOUN valley and its beautiful terraced gardens. Night in the village of IGHRAM-AKDIM, in an inn. (5 to 6 hours walk).

DAY 04: We cross the village of IGHRAM-AKDIM then that of ISSOUMAR to follow the superb M'GOUN gorges. A small climb takes us to the ALMDOUNE plateau at the foot of the M'GOUN massif. Night in a tent. (6 hours of walking).

DAY 05: Passage through the QATI gorges and oleander forests, then the valley widens again. We reach the villages GOUTTI, HOT (visit to a kasbah), AZRAG then BOUTAGHRAR. Night in a lodge. (6 hours walk).

DAY 06: Superb walk along the M'GOUN river, a great architectural wealth of Kasbahs and citadels, most of which are in ruins. Night at homestay. (6 hours of walking).

DAY 07: Return to Marrakech via KALâA M'GOUNA then Ouarzazate. Night at the hotel.

DAY 08: Transfer to the airport.

Draa Valley



Duration: 8 days(October to April)

To the rhythm of camels, you will experience the mysterious world of the desert. This route takes you through adobe villages, oases, palm groves and magnificent dunes of the Grand Erg along the valley. It is also an opportunity for you and your children to go on camel rides.

DAY 01: Flight to Marrakech, transfer and night at the hotel

DAY 02: Departure by minibus, via the TICHKA pass (2260m), where we cross the High Atlas (panoramic views). Lunch in Ouarzazate and first contact with the valley in AGDZ and ZAGORA. Meeting our camel team and night in a tent in BENI ALI. (6 to 7 hours drive).

DAY 03: Start of our hike at a slow pace from the camels. This first walk among the palm groves and tamarisk trees allows us to perceive the daily life of people from the south. Night in a tent in NASRATE. (6 hours of walking)

DAY 04: Through the NASRATE palm grove, the first dunes offer us a panoramic view of the entire valley, with its minarets extending beyond the palm trees. Visit to the Koranic school of ZAOUITI SIDI SALIH, one of the oldest kasbahs in the south. Night in a tent at the TIDRI erg. (6 hours of walking).

DAY 05: Day of dunes par excellence. Midday stop and swimming between the dunes of TIRAF and TIDRI. Night in a tent in the heart of the R'GABI dunes. (5 to 6 hours of walking).

DAY 06: Arrival in the OULAD-DRISS palm grove. Visit to a 13th century kasbah (local museum). Camel ride. Night in a nomadic tent while camping.

DAY 07: Return to Marrakech. Night at the hotel.

DAY 08: Transfer to the airport

Duration: 8 days(October to April)

DAY 01: Arrival at Marrakech airport, transfer to the hotel.

DAY 02: Departure by minibus for the village of Imi Oughlade (1 hour drive). Meeting of our mule team. We begin our walk by crossing the village and its orchards. A gradual climb takes us to the Col de Tacht (2000m), a view of the entire massif and its valleys. Then, we follow the red valley and its tiny villages. Night at the Tizioussem gîte (1750m) 5 to 6 hours walk.

DAY 03: We leave the valley for the M'zik pass (2100m), view of the Imlil valley and the Oukaimden station. Night in the village of Armed (2000m) under tents. 5 hours walk.

DAY 04: A long climb takes us away from the last village in the valley; after the marabout of Sidi Samharouche, we arrive after 6 steps at the Toubkal refuge (3200m). Night in the tents.

DAY 05: Early departure for the summit of Toubkal, panoramic view of the entire massif and its valleys, the south and the Anti Atlas massif. Night in a tent. 6 hours of walking including 4 hours of climbing. No technical difficulty.

DAY 06: Descent to the village of Armed, night in a tent. 5 to 6 hours walk.

DAY 07: Short walk to arrive in the center of Imlil, return by minibus to Marrakech. Free afternoon and night at the hotel.

DAY 08: Transfer to the airport for the international flight.

Prices and Services


Details:To the extent that we make the program à la carte according to everyone's wishes and the number of participants, the prices are therefore studied on a case-by-case basis.

We respond to your emails within 48 hours.

Our transparency and honesty allow us to unambiguously indicate now all the services we include in our prices. No false joys with call prices of 550 Euros (on a single date and as luck would have it always full!) as we can sometimes read, or even attractive prices but without the specified services (the operators then add airport taxes, meals in Marrakech and so on...). In short, our prices vary depending on the number of participants, but our excellent services are always the same and you never have heavy extras falling on you:

  • Paris/Marrakech return flight (airport taxes included). We arrange departures from all major provincial towns at a small additional cost.

  • Airport transfers by 4X4 or private minibus (very good condition)

  • 2-star hotel in Marrakech (air-conditioned rooms with bathroom). Very good self-service restaurant. 2 minutes from the souks and the medina, very close to Jemaa-el-Fna square. Breakfast and evening meal (extra buffet!!) understood.

  • Transport by private minibus or 4X4 to the start/end points of the trek

  • Accompanying teams: In addition to the French-speaking guide, there is a cook, the team of camel drivers/mule drivers who load the equipment and set up the camps... Generally 1 mule and one mule driver for 2 trekkers.

  • Accommodation is either in bivouac (trekker tents with mattresses, kitchen tent, large mess tent for meals...) or in lodging in approved village houses (dining room, toilet/shower, dormitory rooms...)

  • Meals, to which we attach great importance, both in quality and variety. No unpleasant surprises like tomatoes and laughing cows at every meal; Our cooks have talent and they highlight it. Good for you!

Practical Information


Details:

LANGUAGE Arab. French is, however, commonly used.

FLIGHT TIME: Marrakech and Fez: approx. 3:00

CURRENCY: The Moroccan dirham (MAD). The import or export of dirham is strictly prohibited. International credit cards accepted.

OFFSET SCHEDULE: In summer: 2 hours less than in France. In winter: 1 hour less than in France.

VOLTAGE: 220 volts

ORMALITIES: For French nationals: national identity card or passport strongly recommended. For nationals of other nationalities: contact the consular authorities. The procedures for obtaining a visa must be carried out by the interested parties themselves.

CLIMATE: It is very different depending on the region: Mediterranean in the north, Atlantic in the west and Saharan in the south. Generally speaking: hot summers (temperate on the coast and in the mountains), mild winters except in the mountains (snow on the Atlas): you can therefore visit Morocco all year round. Depending on the season, temperature differences between day and night are sometimes considerable (bring warm clothing).

HEALTH: No vaccinations are required at this time. Bring an antiseptic, an anti-diarrheal, a sun protection cream. It is recommended to drink exclusively bottled water.
